INSPIRATION
I thought it would be interesting to recreate the story of the Goan musicians Lawry and Donna, through the memorable poses of their late 60's poster and set it against an Art Deco backdrop that was predominantly forming the scape of South Mumbai. So I started by creating a kind of Visual Scape of Nachom-ia Kumpasar.

NACHOM-IA KUMPASAR'S VISUAL SCAPE
First Sketch: I thought of creating a graphic backdrop in Art Deco style, staying true to the period & setting of this film. And juxtapose it with photos of the main characters of the film, recreating the memorable poses from their posters of the late 60's, in their original cinematic get up.

Below are the close up of the different elements of the poster:
EROS THEATRE: A representative of the iconic Art Deco structures of Churchgate -Marine Drive belt, of Mumbai city, against which was the vibrant jazz scene was buzzing.
I created this B&W graphic from a photograph of Eros.
GOA: A representative of the land from where the story began... "the story is Music... the art of the Muses as the Greeks would say. The voice of Goa is the voice of its music. NK is a lilting narrative that speaks of human failing and creative triumph, passion and jealousy, love and betrayal, desire and contempt all in the same breath... blown lustily through the brass tubes of a jazz trumpet." Agnello Dias
PHOTO-SHOOT:  We shot the main characters in their original cinematic get up, recreating the memorable poses. Also did shots in their transitional get up as in the movie.
